Marble

Isn’t marble a funny thing?
It’s the great supporter,
A champion of gravity,
The substratum of society,
If you think about it,
And yet, at the same time,
It’s so frivolous, ubiquitous
To the point we use it to hold
Wine bottles and coffee pots,
Plates, knives, and forks,
We eat over the stuff,
Spill crumbs and grease on it,
And it turns the other cheek,
Looks on, never even flinching,
Poised and ready to embrace
The next task, as if bound
By some divine duty to soldier,
Silent, hushed even, onward.
It almost makes you wonder
If that’s what Rodin
Had in mind all along.

  1. Tony Brown, slam poet and author of the blog, Dark Matter took my advice and checked out your site and liked it. You two really do have a similar approach to life and poetry. Fast becoming two of my favorite blogs. I realize I’m not your target demographic. But to hell with it, a reader is a reader.

    • I don’t know that I would be able to narrow down a target demographic. A lot of the upcoming pieces really bend the mold of what I’ve already published here, and I’ve very recently published several others elsewhere (yay!), which I’ll be announcing soon. But I know one thing, I am so very glad you are a part of this site and the community! Thanks for turning Tony on to my site. I’m glad he enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to checking out Dark Matter, as soon as I get back home from Lexington.
